Madea Goes to Jail

This movie is the result of what we all have been waiting for. If you have been apart of the ride with Madea, then you’ve known that she only has one more chance. It was only a matter of time before she did something crazy, yet funny, that will lead her to jail. Madea loves getting even. In fact she has to “get the gotter who got her”. She doesn’t believe in getting over and forgiving. In Madea Goes to Jail, the one striking scene that is the first step to sending her to prison ends up in her removing a car from the parking spot that she wanted with a bulldozer. We all get mad at the drivers who take our spots or cut us off on the road. Madea does what we all wish we could do. The unthinkable! However she gets off on this case as Judge Maybeline puts her on house arrest and warns her. She soon comes home to find that her older brother, who is on oxygen and still smoking, is having a house party. She was not aware of this. She doesn’t like it, of course. Yet, she is calm about it. We all know that Madea is up to something. She does not like the fact of not being in control. She was just told to calm down, and indeed she tried for about 3 minutes. Next, you see everybody running out of her house due to gunshots! No one other then Madea! She is not playing! She had to “get the gotters” and the police finally got her.
Besides the fact that this is also a love story, Madea makes it a happy one. A lawyer also finds that he has to handle a case for his ex best friend. He is about to get married and his fiancé does not like the attention that he gives to his ex best friend. We find out that he feels as if he owes her, the ex best friend, because of her being raped when they were in college. She is a prostitute and he wants to get her off the streets. Being that his fiancé is a lawyer too, she piles time on his ex best friend to spend in jail so that he does not have to deal with her and give her his time. He finds out what his fiancé did and gets the friend out of jail. Also he walks out on their wedding day while letting all friends and family know what type of scandalous bride she is. Not only does the ex best friend gets out of jail, but so does Madea. Everybody is chanting for Madea and somehow she gets out. Dr. Phil tries to work with Madea, but he can’t even handle or change her. The lawyer and ex best friend finds that they do have a romantic love for each other and Madea, in the end “gets the gotters”. This is truly a must see movie if you love to laugh. Yet, who doesn’t? You cannot resist loving Madea because everybody does!

Rear Window

L.B plays an outstanding character with limitations. Being limited to just a wheelchair due to a broken leg, he become curious of what is going around in this close and yet open neighborhood. He seen a variety of scenes from a dancing neighbor, to partying neighbors, to some neighbors who were privately having fun, to a neighbor who was desperate for a man, and just much more. His curiosity tuned him in along with the other characters, who at first thought he was crazy. He wanted the simple things in life but his girlfriend wanted more. As we view the different neighbors, some may say that each neighbor represented a life that L.B maybe wished for or would have liked to experience. he did not want to be in people's private lives but when something interesting attracts you, you can't help but to engage. Coming across a strange man, his intuition led him to solve a murder. "Why didn't you turn me in the first time?" L.B was asked before risking his life while being attacked by the murderer. L.B wanted to completely be in tuned til the end. He had to prove to himself before he could prove to others that his findings were correct. He knew that no one would believe him until his curiosity became less aggravating and more curious to others as well.
From the movie one could take that even when we do not want to be "nosey" or engaged in business that is not our own, we still tend to still unintentionally get involved. Robert Eberts makes it so profound in his review by saying that the very thing that we see takes control and grabs hold to us. Knowing that being nosey is wrong or at least a bit risky is one thing, but the wanting and yearning to be nosey is more dangerous. As for L.B he puts his life as well as his girlfriend and care giver's life on the line. Some may ask did he really mean for the others to get involved and put in such risky situations? But I ask did he really care of the risk while being so close to hard boiled evidence? Curiosity kills the Cat, depending on the situation.

Stomp The Yard

A very intense and compelling movie, Stomp the Yard teaches a young African American male about the significance of brotherhood. DJ (Columbus Short) grew up dancing and stomping with his brother who died in the beginning of a movie. DJ blames himself for his brother death because of the decision he made to battle a well-known dance crew in their own home and beat them. After winning the battle and the money, the crew attacked DJ, his brother and their crew, which led to killing DJ’s brother. From their own out Dj suffers with going to a new college, Truth University where stepping is historically known.

Dj street style of stepping was very competitive and new to the school and with being a freshman, he posed a threat to some of the authority in the Mu Gamma Xi and Theta Nu Theta fraternity. His pride did not let him back down to anyone as Grant (Darrin Henson), the leader of Mu Gamma Xi challenged him on many occasions. Dj’ s moves were carefully watched and were taken when it came down to the step competition between the two fraternities. April (Meagan Good), Grant’s girlfriend instantly became the interest of Dj. He tried his best to impress her and in the end she indeed became impressed. Dj joined Grants rival fraternity Theta Nu Theta and began getting ready for the big event. Grant tried to get Dj suspended due to the incident with his brother. The Dean of the school was April’s father and he expelled Dj because the school was not aware of the charges that Dj had from the incident and because April’s father did not think that Dj was good enough for her. Dj proved to the school and the dean that he was an overall good man with very good potential. In proving, he had to learn the meaning of brotherhood and being a team player. He took his and his brother’s dream and made it happen. He did not felt that he had fit in because this university was more of a professional atmosphere. However he overcame all the obstacles, stood his ground, and learned the value of brotherhood and respect.

This movie is captivating and keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know and see more. I felt the feelings, thoughts, pain and happiness that the main character felt. I also felt the intensity in the stepping. This movie showed pride in being an outsider and transforming to a successful, known individual. This movie shows a more intellectual meaning to dance and step. Columbus Short was the perfect gentleman to play this part. He was quietly intelligent which made him an interesting man to the school and especially April. He was an attractive young man coming from a rough neighborhood with yet a taste of class. He overcame his internal struggle, his struggle with competition and being a team player. All other actors were great as well. The stepping was heart felt in the sense that every step and beat made your heart pound. The excitement was phenomenal and made this movie the best dance and step movie yet.

Robert Ebert’s review on the Bride of Frankenstein spoke about the feminine actions and homosexuality that Frankenstein showed. From his review, I thought about the possible different ideas or thoughts of James Whale. In analyzing, I would speak on the homosexuality. Is Whales trying to prove a point? Even if the monster was a homosexual, what is the difference? Homosexual or not, people and or monsters have feelings too. We all think, feel, touch, etc. Some of us may be unattractive and some attractive, and still need that emotional bond somewhere. Maybe Whale wanted the monster to represent humans or those who are not accepted in society. To go further with Ebert’s review, during the time of homosexuality, maybe something or someone felt accepted, or comfortable enough to reveal their selves. Society puts a trap on things that are not accepted, by own personal opinion, and attack the opposed. Even with just being an abnormal, a monster, this added on to the opposition of something or someone who just wanted to be heard, felt, and accepted.

From Gary Morris point of view, he talked about just the overall encounter with the rest of the characters, which were mainly men. There were a few characters that understood the monster, and understood his desires. They maybe represented the few people who would take the time to accept the unknown. Or, like the blind man, those who feel the same feelings will accept those who understand completely, no matter what one looks like or acts like. Some people are desperate to accept and appreciate the unordinary things.

New York Times revealed the transformation of the monster from his meanness to kindness. He found someone who not only accepted him, but took him in, fed him and gave him drink, and taught him some things. At this point, Frankenstein felt at home. He laughed and clapped and felt apart of the human society. New York Times added another spend to the acceptance idea of Frankenstein. So not only is the monster possibly accepted with homosexuality, in a sense or some sense, and accepted by a few good men who taught him some ordinary things, but he is also more kind and comfortable with being himself. Then his friends were taken away and the only thing in the world he wanted did not want him. So he gave up and became a mean monster again. I truly believe that Frankenstein represents human society that is trapped. He could represent someone struggling internally and fighting to except himself. Society has closed him in by attacking his being every time he is shown and every time he gets to show his feelings. When we as humans feel this way, we shut down with either depression or anger. So Frankenstein got angry and even.

Bride of Frankenstein

Bride of Frankenstein
This was an interesting movie for me. The most compelling and interesting thing or character to me was Frankenstein. He was this big, ugly monster of which whom everyone was scared of. Yet he was the nicest in the story. He seemed to only harm those who harmed him first. The fact that he could not speak clearly made him seem aggressive and threatening to everyone else. This is truly an act of judging the outside of something or someone. It is interesting that the only friend he had was the blind man, but would he had been his friend if he could have seen him? However the blind man was longing for a friend as well. The only way that this film seemed scary to me, was because of the lighting techniques. This added suspense to the film but the main character only showed fright because of his appearance. The very dark shadows and scenes created a mood of tension and tragedy. All Frankenstein wanted was a companion or a friend perhaps. He searched and searched and the one friend he had, was taken away from him. He only posed a threat when he demanded a companion be created for him. When that did not work out, or when he found that she did not like him, he killed those around him, including himself. But who actually represented the bride. To me, the blind man represented the bride on a mental and somewhat emotional level. He understood what Frankenstein wanted and needed. He took the time to understand what Frankenstein was saying and also took the time to teach him some things. He may have even had a sense of the size of Frankenstein because he touched his hand and also his shoulder in some scenes. The only thing that mattered to both of them was that they had company. This is what gave Frankenstein hope. So the only things that made this film horror or made the mood of the film create tension, was those that were scared of him, those who did not take the time to actually see who he really was. But, who could blame them? Society first reaction to things that seems threatening is to run or attack.
